flowers-2.jpgWe don't know what this plant at the end of our garden is called but it's sure beautiful at the moment. It's never been this loaded with flowers since we've lived here.

Three cheers for our niece Megan Addy, who finished second in the 400m hurdles at the US Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Palo Alto on Sunday! Way to go Megan!

handball.jpgWe wuz robbed! Not only did the USA dominate the Germans for most of the match, they were denied a goal by a German defender's arm. They should have been awarded a penalty, and the defender should have got a red card. Neither happened. I think the ball was over the line anyway when it hit him.

As for England, the less said the better. They were awful and went out with a whimper. Boo!

For some reason, this song keeps going through my head.

A picture named newsweek1.jpgNewsweek blows whatever credibility it had with this week's cover story on the World Cup. Probably the most exciting World Cup in a generation is a flop? And to make matters worse, Newsweek's article failed to mention that the USA had advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time ever! Well done, Newsweek. I'm just going to give up trying to explain to people here why America just doesn't get it.

A picture named pool1.jpgAfter a solid month of rain and cloudy skies, the sun reappeared last weekend and Charlie got the chance to get his "trunks" on and hit the paddling pool. Here he is with his Mum and "Nan".

A picture named beckham.jpgEngland 1 Argentina 0
David Beckham's penalty gives England their first World Cup victory over Argentina since 1966, which also happens to be the last time England won the World Cup. Needless to say a few million extra pints will be consumed around the country this evening. Next up is Nigeria on Wednesday.

Congratulations to the USA football team for a fantastic, convincing victory over Portugal yesterday. Just a shame that it took place while the entire nation was asleep.

We hope that England can play with as much heart tomorrow, when they take on their old enemy Argentina. The game kicks off at 12.30pm London time, when we, along with the rest of the country, will be watching in a crowded pub. Come on, England!

We've been unable to update this weblog for a few days due to technical problems here and at our host, gulker.com. So better late than never for these pictures from the street party here in Deerings Road on Monday 3 June in honour of the Queen's Golden Jubilee. Charlie had a great time, running up and down the street, riding lots of other kids' bikes, popping into any house that had an open front door, and, best of all, eating lots of sandwiches, cakes and ice cream at the tea party for the local children shown above. The grown-ups' party ended after midnight, Charlie having sensibly gone to bed hours earlier.
