My friend (and internet service provider) Chris Gulker's latest startup, Ventanis, is already making some headlines. Way to go, Chris!

I made my first ever pilgrimage to Hillsborough on Saturday, the home of Sheffield Wednesday, the football club I've supported for 12 years. I usually try and see them when they play in London, but seeing them at home, with 20,000 other Wednesday fans, was quite different. Sadly, the result was predictably the same. Thanks to my friend David (who took this photo) and his son, Alex, for a great day out!

Charlie and Mum during our Sunday picnic at the nearby village of Abinger Hammer, where the local cricket team was in action. Later in the garden, Charlie was "making soup" (ie, carrying bucketfuls of water from his wading pool to another big bucket on the patio).

Charlie relaxing on the sofa one day last week. Keeping cool in his shorts (and no nappie, as potty training continues to go very well).

Tom Reid's been the Washington Post's London bureau chief for the past five years. Now he's heading home. He wrote a great article for the Observer about his time here. As they say hereabouts, "spot on", Tom.

BA002 inbound to Heathrow from JFK has been passing over the house nearly every evening this summer round 8.45pm. Even though it's been around for a long time, Concorde in flight is still an amazing sight.
